Video: May Online Class Featuring Needle & Thread Week 3

It's the third week of the month, which means it's time to focus on creating a Christmas card with my featured stamp set this month: Needle & Thread  This card may not scream Christmas, but I did try to use elements of the Needlepoint Nook Suite to create a Christmas card.
  • Christmas Colors (Old Olive and Poppy Parade)
  • Wreath
  • Gold Metallic pearls (or ornaments)
You could always add a Christmas specific sentiment in the wreath or at the top of the card front.  I was excited to see the Needlepoint Nook DSP had paper with stitching patterns on it in both Old Olive and Poppy Parade.

I love that the Needlepoint Element dies include a die to cut out the smaller stitched flowers individually, so you can layer them however you choose and create quite the bouquet.  I did make a few changes to the finished product after the video.  I decided to fussy cut my wreath and place it at the top right of the Poppy Parade card stock which left me space to create a bouquet for the card front as well as the inside of the card.  I also added some gold metallic pearls for the finishing touch.

Check out the video of this week's online class below:

Just Relaxing in the Sun

Flowers and trees are beginning to bud  Everywhere I look are signs of spring and new life.  One of the reasons I am so excited about my annual pass to the botanical gardens is the ability to recreate this scene and not feel guilty.  I can just stake out a spot near flowers to sit and relax and enjoy the breeze, beauty of nature around me and spend time relaxing and refreshing my soul.

This card was inspired by both the #tgifc211 challenge of #nolayers and the colors from PP441  The background was sponged in Pool Party and Granny Apple Green with a Daffodil Delight sky.  The frame of the chair and tree branch were both stamped in Soft Suede with a Pool Party chair seat and Lovely Lipstick flowers on the tree  There's even a glass of Daffodil Delight lemonade for added refreshment while you are sitting and relaxing.

Where is your favorite place to relax and enjoy nature?
What do you do when your soul needs refreshed?

It's So Hard to Say Good-bye

Change is hard
Even good change is hard.
May is all about change.
The school year comes to an end.  (Well at least it does in my part of the world)

Graduations are also happening right now and are hard
  • graduation from one grade to another
  • elementary to middle school
  • middle school to high school
  • graduation from high school
  • graduation from college, university, trade school
Graduations generally mean the successful completion of one thing and the beginning of a new phase of life  Graduation means change.  Whether it is positive or not, change is still hard.

This May brings the end of middle school for our house and while it's not the end of high school for my oldest until next May, it is the end of a full high school schedule.  August brings only one or two high school classes along with a full time college schedule.  So, this May marks the end of an era.

For Stampin' Up!, May also brings changes.  The new annual catalog goes LIVE on June 4.  So May brings change in the form of hello and good-bye.  There is the anticipation of the new catalog and saying hello to some amazing new products.  It is also time to say good-bye to products retiring with the current annual catalog.

The card above was inspired by the sketch for the CAS(E) this Sketch! challenge #321.  It used two retiring stamp sets along with retiring Designer Series Paper.  The Happy Birthday image was stamped with the markering technique which added color to the packages and bows before stamping the sentiment onto the paper  The colored stamped confetti and glitter enamel dots in colors matching the gummy bears on the DSP add the right amount of celebration.

Make sure you head over to CTS #321 to see the inspiration cards by the design team and other creative entries.

It is time to say good-bye to the 2017-2019 In Colors. These will be leaving at the end of the catalog, and some products of some colors are already sold out and no longer available.  During Simple Stamp Class this month, we had a farewell party for the 2017-2019 In Colors  We were also saying good-bye to the Big Wishes stamp set.  #simplestamping

All the cards were created using retiring In Colors on Whisper White cardstock and then adhered to the retiring 2017-2019 In Color of their choice.   Multiple ink colors were added to the image using markering or the Stamparatus.

The Stampin' Up! 2017-2019 In Colors are

  • Powder Pink
  • Berry Burst
  • Fresh Fig
  • Lemon Lime Twist
  • Tranquil Tide

Which will you miss the most?

Inspired by Daisies

Mother's Day 2019 has come and gone.  I know lots of moms (myself included) have flowers as part of their celebration.  I love flowers however they show up in my life, but I don't do well with a garden  I love to look at a garden of gorgeous flowers that someone else has taken the time to cultivate and grow, but I don't do well with my own garden.  I think somehow I didn't get the gardening gene

I'm not sure I would say I don't have a green thumb.  I think in order to know that you have to actually try to grow a living plant.  I just want a plant to show up and do amazing without any work or attention from me.  Do you call that a lazy thumb?

Whatever it is called, my family knows how much I appreciate flowers growing in the ground, but don't actually want to care for them myself.  So, this year, I got a membership to Botanica so I can enjoy the beauty of flowers and plants growing without having to handle the planting, weeding, nurturing myself

Another way to enjoy the beauty of flowers that will remain beautiful is to make them the star of a card.

I created a cluster of daisies by stamping some in Sahara sand and then punching out others in Whisper White cardstock and layering them together using Clear Faceted Gems as the flower centers.

So, if you have a black thumb or even just a lazy one, but would still like to enjoy beautiful flowers, here are some ideas

  • Live next door to someone with a green thumb
  • Bribe your children to garden for you
  • Take a walk and enjoy the flowers around your neighborhood
  • Get a membership to your local botanical gardens
  • Craft yourself some flowers, flower cards, or other flower paper projects

Video: May Online Class Featuring Needle & Thread Week 2

Every time I play with the Needlepoint Nook Suite, I am impressed with how easily and quickly I can create the look of stitching on my card without ever threading a needle  I don't know about you, but I was always pricking my finger with the needle.  I know I can't be the only one or they wouldn't have made thimbles.  Guess I should actually wear one when I sew?  My fingers sure feel better after creating a card with the Needlepoint Nook Suite and with the amazing photo realism of these elements, the detail of the stitched images makes me want to reach out and touch the thread.

For this card, I chose to use the Detailed Trio Punch to round the corners of the cardstock strip across the center of the card front.  I thought it softened the edges and helped it fit the elements of the card like the sentiment punch and rounded flower petals  I used my favorite die from this set to create the stitched image on the inside of the card  I still wonder what would happen if I actually stitched some thread through the holes created by the die.  Stay tuned--I may acually do that one day.

Need a birthday card for a guy in your life?

I don't know about you, but I tend to struggle sometimes thinking about creating cards for the men in my life.  Silly me, I kind of want my cards to have personal meaning to show that I was thinking of them while I was creating the card.    I really like the Classic Garage Designer Series Paper and how those images lend themselves to some creative, personalized cards.

My cards today were inspired by the Paper Craft Crew Challenge.  I created one card perfect for a motorcycle lover, one for a steampunk aficionado, and I plan to create one perfect for someone who enjoys cars.  You'll have to wait and see when that one is complete.

\
When I need a card for someone, I love to make it with them in mind.  Sometimes I don't have time for that or am creating for fun and relaxation with no specific card or person in mind.  But when I am, I find myself thinking of them and sending up prayers with them in mind.  Even if the card comes out of my stash of cards, the minute it is chosen with you in mind, you too get the same consideration in my thoughts and prayers..

A homemade card is more than just an impersonal piece of paper.  It shows someone they are in your thoughts,  It gives you an outlet and way to express kindness, care, and or gratitude.  A homemade card means you mean enough to me for me to share a piece of my heart with you.

Creating a card can bring you peace, relaxation, and positivity.  Sharing it will hopefully bring the same to the recipient of your card.
