How to Make a Card for Someone Chronically Ill

  • Do need a card for someone with a chronic or terminal illness?
  • Are most "Get Well" cards inappropriate for the situation?
  • Is the person probably never going to return to their "old" normal or previous level of "wellness"?
  • Do you just not know what to say?
I am about to ease your mind.  Just speak from your heart and talk to your friend the way you always have  There is no proper or right thing you must say.  Just be you and love them like you always have.

Make your card based on the personality of the receiver and what they would like  If your relationship has been full of humor, make a funny card.  If they love all things elegant, delicate, and floral, this card would show you are thinking of them

The front panel of this card was created by inking one side of the embossing folder and then running the paper in the embossing folder through the Big Shot.  This will transfer  the ink to your card front layer while creating your beautiful embossed paper.

When I was first diagnosed with cancer, receiving cards, items, or words that were obviously personally chosen with me in mind did wonders for my spirit.  I did not feel alone as I was facing the daily struggle that is cancer.

There are other chronic health struggles that seem to overwhelm your world.  A thinking of you card or "sending healing vibes" can let your friend know their struggle is noticed and they don't have to silently face it alone.  Healing doesn't always have to be physical.  Perhaps a healing of spirit will happen for both of you.

When making a card for your friend with chronic or terminal illness, be sure you leave space to write a personal note on the inside  Let them know you are thinking of them and maybe tell a funny or sentimental memory that you have of your relationship with them.

When you need a card for someone and a "get well" card just doesn't fit, make sure you are keeping them in mind as your create your card.  Show them you were thinking of them and will continue to do so.  Don't drop a card in the mail and then drop off the planet. Continue to reach out and show them love and kindness.  And, if you are the one with the chronic or terminal illness, think about someone else you know in the same situation and spend time thinking of them and create a card to spread some love and kindness.  This craft therapy will benefit both of you.

Video: March Online Class Featuring Animal Outing Stamp Set--Week 4

Kangaroos
Koalas
Giraffes
I honestly can't remember if I've seen all three of these animals in the same place before.  I know I haven't see them in the same habitat, but maybe at the same zoo.  Have you?
I don't even think I've seen them staring in a movie together.  Not even a cartoon.  What about you?  Have you seen them all together?\

A quick google search just told me that all three were in "The Wild" a 2006 Disney movie.  I did see that, but I don't have much memory of it.  Can you think of any other examples?

Regardless, all three are featured on the front of this card.  I'm certain I have never seen a koala in a kangaroo's pouch, but I am calling this 3 species group a family  Kangaroo mom, Giraffe dad, and Koala baby  I'm thinking they have to be an adoptive family, so this would make a great card for anyone adopting a child  :)  It's a cute baby card no matter how the child joins the family.

Check out the video tutorial of this card.

Looking out the Window

Ever wonder what your animal is doing looking out the window?  If this were a dog I might think they were protecting the property or waiting for you to arrive back home.  But, since it is a cat, I think the reason is a bit more mysterious.  Maybe she is enjoying the view of the flowers through the stained glass and even moving her eyes somewhat to make the image change as the sunlight filters through the colored glass creating rainbow prisms as it streams through onto her ledge.  Maybe she is basking in the sunlight, embracing the warmth, as it lulls her into an afternoon nap.  Maybe she is contemplating the meaning of life.  And maybe, just maybe , she is waiting for that glimpse of you coming up the walk to know that she can then settle in for the the night knowing all is well with her world and her family is home.  Of course, she will never let you know that is what she is thinking.

What do you think she is thinking?

I used Stampin' Blends to color in the Graceful Glass Vellum to create a stained glass look and then put glue on the Silicone Craft Mat and applied it to the vellum with a sponge to get the great adhesiveness on the entire vellum piece without leaving ugly adhesive you can see through the vellum  Thanks Connie Stewart for this great tip and thanks Elizabeth for recommending that video to me.

Happiness Blooms Pink

Some days you need a card but don't feel like you have a creative bone in your body
Some days you can barely muster the energy to move from bed to couch
Some days your joints hurt so much you can't even hold your toothbrush and definitely not a stamp.
What do you do on those days?
  • You take care of yourself
  • You look at gorgeous pictures and dream about what you will create tomorrow
  • You can pull out the Stamparatus and let it help you stamp when your body can't
  • You can grab your Memories & More Card Pack and Note cards and put together a fabulous card from your place on the couch.

I'll let you in on a little secret.  I have a basket close to my couch with Memories & More Card Packs and Note cards, some glue, and a few matching embellishments  That way even if I can't force myself to sit at my table and work, I can still make some gorgeous cards,  Or, I can put some together while watching TV with my family after supper.

I'm still planning to set a 30 minute timer and see just how many Memories & More cards I can make in half an hour.  Keep watching this blog for the answer.
