SNEAK PEEK: Emboss Resist Congratulations with 2018-2020 In Colors

Today was the first day I got to take time to play with the new 2018-2020 In Colors both the ink and cardstock.  I decided to go with Blueberry Bushel for the card base.  I chose to use the stamp from the Amazing Congratulations stamp set that is the outline of the entire word.  I stamped it with Blueberry Bushel and heat embossed with clear embosing powder on Watercolor Paper.  I then used the emboss resist technique to paint the rainbow of new ink colors on the paper with an Aqua painter.   I did add Elegant Eggplant at the end of the rainbow partly because it's not a rainbow without purple at the end.  And, partly because Elegant Eggplant is my current favorite Stampin' Up! and I want to use it as much as possible before it retires.

I have wondered since they announced the color reboot and talked about the in formula change if I would even notice the difference really.  Well, I can say I did immediately.  My first use of all the colors was a watercolor wash with the aquapainter.  I first painted with Lovely Lipstick and then with Elegant Eggplant.  I instantly noticed that the color didn't spread as evenly or easily.  The other new In Colors worked just as smoothly as Lovely Lipstick.  I was also quite impressed how smoothly it stamped on the interior of the card.  I think I'm really going to like the new ink formula as much as I like the stamp pad redesign.  I can't wait to share them with all of you.  The good news is that tomorrow, May 1 early purchase begins for you with the Share What You Love bundles and a bundle of the 2018-2020 In Color Ink Pads.  You can order these tomorrow to begin playing with them yourself.  Let me know if you have any questions.

I am entering this card in the Freshly Made Sketches challenge this week.  Make sure you head on over to FMS334 to see the inspiration cards by the design team and other creative entries.

Global Design Project 135| Theme Challenge: Show Me the Sunshine

Ever since I first saw the sentient "pocket full of sunshine" I can't help but imagining actual sunshine peeking out of a pocket.  We're a bit literal at this house.  Methaphors and smilies and other figures of speech always bring to mind the literal translation.  It is a bit of fun to sometimes try to capture the literal translation on a card.  When I saw the Global Design Project theme for this week, I knew it was time to bring this sentiment to life.  Not only is the sunshine peeking out of the pocket, but there are rays shining from the pocket as well.

There seemed no better color for this project than varying shades of yellow.  And, they carry on to the interior of the card with the stamped sunshine in the corner and dazzling sentiment.  Whoever is the recipient of this card should know that they brighten my world and get me to use yellow (which is not my go to color).

Head on over to GDP135 to see the inspiration cards by the design team and other creative entries.

Video: April Online Class Featuring Rose Wonder--Week 4

It's time for the last April online class featuring Rose Wonder stamp set.  I am so excited to get to use some of my favorite retiring products before they are gone.  I love the versatility of the Rose Wonder stamp set and Rose Garden thinlits.  The sample card I made for this design featured sentiments for a wedding card.  When I made the card on Facebook LIVE today, I changed the sentiment to a birthday card.  You could also use this design for a thank you or sympathy card just by changing the sentiments.

I love using DSP peeking out behind the rose on this card.  Since the cardstock is cut away around the rose outline, you get to see the gorgeous DSP behind it and when you open the card the opposite side of the DSP is featured on the inside of the card.  I also chose to use my sponge daubers with a thinlit to sponge a rose on the inside of the card again.  That is my favorite way to add detail to the card interior when I am using the Rose Wonder set

Check out the video tutorial below:

Apron of Love at Christmas

I do realize it's April, almost May in fact.  But, there's never a wrong time of year to make Christmas cards.  I have made it a personal goal of mine to try to create a Christmas card from each stamp set I am featuring each month.  I will be featuring the Apron of Love stamp set in May so as I was designing cards for next month, I thought about how to use this stamp set for a Christmas card.

What better way to focus on Christmas than to focus on the baking apects of this stamp set.  I used the Be Merry DSP for the apron, baking mit, and strip of DSP on the front of the card.  The Everyday Label punch makes an excellent cookie sheet that is just right for the gingerbread cookie from the Cookie Builder Punch.  You could use the Cookie Cutter Christmas Stamp Set to give your cookie detail, but you can also use a marker if you don't have that stamp set.

I entered this card in both the Paper Players sketch challenge and Watercooler Wednesday Christmas Theme Challenge.  Make sure you check out their challenge pages to see the inspiration cards by the design team and other creative entries.

Video: April Online Class Featuring Rose Wonder--Week 3

It is time for another Facebook LIVE online class.  This week, I decided to move away from the Rose stamp in the stamp set and try something a little different.  This week, we used the smaller flower with both the stamped image and the thinlits and built a flower bush directly on the cardstock front.  I even carried the flowers on to the inside of the card.

One of the colors used for this card: Tangerine Twist will be retiring at the end of May or whenever it is sold out.  So, if  you love it, you might want to stock up before it is gone.

You can watch the video tutorial below

I'm sorry the video did not record the actual card making. I'll try to list the steps here.

  • Stamp small flower from Rose Wonder stamp set on front of card in Crushed Curry and Tangerine Tango.
  • Stamp leaves in Old Olive
  • Pile on thinlits of flowers and leaves
  • Stamp sentiment at bottom of card front
  • Add gold faceted gems to some of the flower middles
Tangerine Tango is a retiring color so make sure you stock up if you love it
