SUO 181 with Paper Players 358

I have to tell you for not being a flower girl, I have sure been making a lot of flower cards lately.  When considering the theme for SUO 181:  Butterflies or dragonflies, I couldn't help but envision a butterfly with a flower.  To give this rose its pop of color, I used watercolor pencils which meant it was a perfect entry for Paper Players 358 as well.

I don't often see butterflies without flowers around.  What about you?

Video: August Online Class Using Cool Treats--Week 4

It is Thursday again and time for another online card making class.  This is the fifth Thursday in August and the last week we'll be featuring the Cool Treats stamp set.  Next week is the 5th Thursday of the month so Facebook Live will be featuring a new technique.

Today's card features popsicles and the new Lemon Lime Twist In Color.  To me, both of those are perfect for celebrating the end of summer.

TGIFC121--You are Fabulous

The theme for the TGIF Challenge this week is so much fun.  The minute I read it, I thought about the sentiment from the Work of Art Stamp Set.  I knew I would have to incorporate it in some way on my entry for this challenge.  As I thought about my card for this challenge, I decided it would be perfect to incorporate some bling, so I used the frame from the Cupcakes and Carousels embellishment kit with the gold trim and cut out the rose thinlit in gold foil.   Gold and fabulous just go together in my brain.

Year of Cheer Washi Tape (2017 Holiday Catalog)

I had so much fun with the sketch.  I thought the different widths of stripes could be represented really well with Washi Tape.  Then, I had such a good time creating the jar where the butterflies had cocooned with the stick still remaining in the jar while the newly hatched butterflies were flying away.  The watercolor pencils and blender pens were perfect for adding color to the butterflies and their former home.  This makes me want to "grow a butterfly" again this spring and recreate the experience of the card again in real life.  I love feeding and taking care of caterpillars until they cocoon in a jar (or butterfly habitat) and then eventually hatch after they've undergone their metamorphosis into a butterfly.  One of my favorite memories is releasing butterflies right off my front porch with my children.

Solar Eclipse for CAS Challenge #236

Today is a day we've been hearing about and planning for weeks, months, years

This is August 21, 2017--Solar Eclipse Day

I started my card in honor of the eclipse in the van on the way toward our viewing location. At that point I had never experienced a total solar eclipse, so the card was based on photos and imagination.

I have now experienced a total solar eclipse

 My card is representative of my experience,  but there were some differences. The weather was cloudy so it was a celebration whenever the eclipse would peek out from behind the clouds

The rain was finished before totality and we did get to experience sudden darkness dark enough to trigger streetlamps

The clouds moved enough to see the corona and it was magnificent

It was too cloudy to see stars and the only color I could see in the corona was white
But card making is an art and subject to the interpretation and creativity of the artist anyway, right?

Global Design Project 100| CASE the Designer Celebration

I've had the idea for this card for awhile, but it's been a crazy week around here. I planned to get some time for creating today after lunch. Little did I know we would be heading to our Solar Eclipse viewing destination today. We're trying to avoid some of the crazy traffic in the morning.  So, I did the stamping at home, made sure I had all the pieces together and put it together in the van

For Global Design Project this week, we get to choose which designer to CASE. I chose  Janneke de Jong. I love the way she used the mini treat bag as the card and the Tabs for Everything Stamp Set as the pull tab for the inside
