Video: May Online Class Featuring Needle & Thread Week 4

I am ready to see live butterflies flying around my yard.  All I see when I look out the window is rain pouring from the sky.  There aren't even butterflies in the botanical gardens butterfly pavilion area yet.  Although I did see one on a flower outside the butterfly pavilion door :)  I think it was enjoying teasing us.  I might have even heard it taunting us.  :)  Maybe that was just my imagination.

I don't think I'm going to be lucky enough to see them in nature quite yet  So, while I'm dreaming of butterflies, I'll create a kaleidoscope of butterflies on a card.  Did you know that is what a group of butterflies is called? A kaleidoscope?  It seems like a perfect description to me.

I enjoy seeing butterflies in a multitude of colors, but the butterflies I chose to create today are in shades of blue--Night of Navy and Balmy Blue with accents of white or vanilla    They even flew onto the interior of the card.

When you see butterflies this year think of them bringing your happiness and love.  I hope you see your own kaleidoscope  of butterflies multiple times this year and are always reminded they are bringing happiness and love.

Daisy, Daisy . . I can't get you out of my head

"Daisy, Daisy give me your answer true . . ."  The song Daisy Belle by Harry Dacre has been running through my head all day.  It's also known as "Bicycle Built for Two."  I finally had to give up and look it up on YouTube  You can find almost any instrument or type of singer recording their rendition of this popular song.    Don't worry you won't be left out  I'm going to share a few of my favorites toward the bottom of this blog.  If my favorites don't use the instrument or style of musician of your choice, head over to YouTube and do a search and find your favorite.  Then, be sure you share it with me.

This card was inspired by the sketch from FMS389 and the theme challenge from the Paper Players this week. The large Daisy stamp from the Daisy Lane stamp set was stamped four times to create the layered, dimensional look  It might have created more of a #simplestamping experience if I had stamped the daisy directly on the card base  However, I wanted to create the look of the leaves tucked behind the flower.  So, the leaves are stamped directly on the card front and the daisy was stamped on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and then cut out with the Stitched Shape die and adhered on top of the stamped leaf edges.

Make sure you head over to FMS389 and PP442 to see the inspiration cards from the design teams and other creative entries

Here are my selections for the YouTube videos of the song "Daisy Belle."  Feel free to do a YouTube search and look for your favorites as well

Nat King Cole

Alvin and the Chipmunks

Weird Al Yankovich

Casual Relaxing in the Sun

The good news is we got a reprieve from the weather for one day.  The bad news is I just wanted to spend it outside relaxing in the sun.  :)  That is not what ultimately happened, but it got me thinking  I want to set up a place where I can relax in the sun, enjoying the blooming trees, flowers, and green grass while still being about to engage my mind and creativity and get some crafting done simultaneously  Looks like I'll need to figure out a way to create a stamping station outside.  Or a portable station I can take anywhere including outdoors.  Got any great ideas?  I hope to be able to share my new stamping space with you here on the blog very soon.

Today's card was inspired by one I had done earlier this month while I was dreaming of sunny days.  I would classify that card #simplestamping since it only used stamps, ink, and paper.  And, it only use a Whisper White cardbase with a scene stamped directly on it with no layers.

Today's card was inspired both by that card and by the sketch for CTS #322.  I feel this is a card for the casual stamper  The cardstock is Blueberry Bushel with the sponged and stamped images on smaller pieces of Whisper White.  The flowering branch was stamped while the longer strip of cardstock was laying on the other Whisper White rectangle and then the smaller strip was elevated with dimensionals.  The lemonade was stamped on a separate piece of white and then cut out before being added to the scene and the sentiment was punched out with the Classic Label Punch before being added to the card.

I hope you get a chance to relax in the sun soon and I hope we both find ways to enjoy our crafting and nature at the same time.

Make sure you head over to CTS #322 to see the inspiration cards by the design team and other creative entries.

Video: May Online Class Featuring Needle & Thread Week 3

It's the third week of the month, which means it's time to focus on creating a Christmas card with my featured stamp set this month: Needle & Thread  This card may not scream Christmas, but I did try to use elements of the Needlepoint Nook Suite to create a Christmas card.
  • Christmas Colors (Old Olive and Poppy Parade)
  • Wreath
  • Gold Metallic pearls (or ornaments)
You could always add a Christmas specific sentiment in the wreath or at the top of the card front.  I was excited to see the Needlepoint Nook DSP had paper with stitching patterns on it in both Old Olive and Poppy Parade.

I love that the Needlepoint Element dies include a die to cut out the smaller stitched flowers individually, so you can layer them however you choose and create quite the bouquet.  I did make a few changes to the finished product after the video.  I decided to fussy cut my wreath and place it at the top right of the Poppy Parade card stock which left me space to create a bouquet for the card front as well as the inside of the card.  I also added some gold metallic pearls for the finishing touch.

Check out the video of this week's online class below:

The following retiring products used in this project are still available as of May 17, 2019.

Just Relaxing in the Sun

Flowers and trees are beginning to bud  Everywhere I look are signs of spring and new life.  One of the reasons I am so excited about my annual pass to the botanical gardens is the ability to recreate this scene and not feel guilty.  I can just stake out a spot near flowers to sit and relax and enjoy the breeze, beauty of nature around me and spend time relaxing and refreshing my soul.

This card was inspired by both the #tgifc211 challenge of #nolayers and the colors from PP441  The background was sponged in Pool Party and Granny Apple Green with a Daffodil Delight sky.  The frame of the chair and tree branch were both stamped in Soft Suede with a Pool Party chair seat and Lovely Lipstick flowers on the tree  There's even a glass of Daffodil Delight lemonade for added refreshment while you are sitting and relaxing.

Where is your favorite place to relax and enjoy nature?
What do you do when your soul needs refreshed?
