Memorial Day

 Today is Memorial Day in the United States.  Many consider Memorial Day the beginning of the summer season or a day off to enjoy with family and friends and grill and spend the day at the lake.  Memorial Day was established as a day to memorialize and remember those who have lost their lives while serving the the U.S. Armed forces.  My card for today is in honor of those  who serve.

Perhaps a sympathy card would be appropriate for Memorial Day.  I wanted to make a thank you card.  In honor of Memorial Day this thank you card would be appropriate for military family members.  They too should be thanked for all they do supporting their U.S. armed service member never knowing if they'll come home safely once again .  So, thank you to the service members and also to their family members at home.

Waterfront Winter

The Waterfront stamp set lends itself to creating gorgeous landscapes from each season.  Now that I've started playing with this stamp set, I find myself imagining how to recreate the beautiful landscapes I see in person or in photos.  Keep watching this blog to see more as my imagination turns into reality on card fronts.

I've always loved the look of white ink on dark cardstock.  I think it looks much like a chalkboard.  But, I promise you using stamps and ink works much better for me.  I think this made a snowy nighttime scene that seemed perfect for a Christmas card.  All it took were stamps, ink, and paper.  I think you'll probably see this design show up in a Simple Stamping class later this year.

Global Design Project | Theme: Just a Note to Say . .

The minute I saw the Global Design Project for the week, I instantly thought of the Swap I created for OnStage this Spring.  I didn't think I had yet featured it on my blog, but I went back and checked just to make sure.   Good news, I had not, so I finished the card by mounting the card front on a Basic Black card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.  Whenever I see "Just a Note", I always think about music, so I thought this  card was a perfect fit for this challenge.

Black and white says music and elegance to me, so that is the color scheme I chose to use for this project.  I also wanted it to be simple and understated, yet elegant and special.  I used the Sheet Music background stamp to stamp on a piece of Whisper White cardstock and then cut it into strips and attached one to the card front.  The sentiment was stamped in Versamark and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.

Video: May Online Class Featuring Apron of Love--Week 4

Week 4 of the May online class featuring Apron of Love means it's time to make a Father's Day card.  It was so fun to get to feature both Mother's Day and Father's Day using one stamp set.    

In my typical style, I chose to change it up a bit from the sample card.  I used a different pattern DSP (still from the Tutti Frutti DSP set).  I thought the black and white stripes reminded me too much of a referee.  :)  I also chose to elongate the oval behind the apron. Which do you prefer?

One of my favorite things to do with a stamp set is use it in a non traditional way.  I love looking at the stamps and seeing how they can be used for something other than the typical translation,  The theme for the Paper Players challenge this week is Blooms  At first glance, the Waterfront stamp set does not appear to contain any floral stamps or anything that can be used for blooms.

But second glance provided me with something I could use to create Earth mounds filled with lots of blooms in Flirty Flamingo and Melon Mambo.  Can you tell which stamp I used from the Waterfront stamp set?  The tops of the palm trees also make fun blooms and greenery when stamped in Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo, and Lemon Lime Twist.

Hello Friend

I'm so excited that not only are the stamps and thinlits used on the card returning in the 2018-2019 Annual Catalog, but so is the DSP.  I love the variety of wood grain and even logs in this DSP.

When I think about this card, I think about being greeted on a sunny summer morning by the crowing of a rooter.  I imagine he is saying "Hello Friend.  It's time to start your day."  Sun streaming through my window certainly makes me ready to get up and start the day.  I hope the rooster waits to say hello until he sees the rays of the sun as well.
