Celebrating the May Trifecta

Happy Cinco de Mayo.  At our house, this is the middle of what we call the May Trifecta.  May 4,5, and 6.  It starts with celebrating May the Fourth Be With You and some kind of Star Wars recognition and ends with my husband's birthday.  Today, we're right smack in the middle on Cinco de Mayo.  I think Cinco de Mayo is more heavily celebrated here in the U.S. than even in Mexico.  I've heard it said that we Americans care more about the party and the food than the actual history of the day.  I don't know that is true for everyone, but I have to admit it is probably true at this house.  Celebrating Cinco de Mayo is all about the food for us.  So I decided to make a card for this weekend with food, actually the fruit I might see at my local Mexican restaurant.

This card was inspired by Global Design Project 136| CASE the Designer, Allison Okamitsu,  I was inspired by many different elements.  The first layer of DSP on Allison's card inspired me to try to create something sort of similar for my background paper.  I heat embossed the pineapple outline stamp from the Fruit Basket stamp set with white embossing powder on watercolor paper and then used the emboss resist technique to finish creating my background paper.  This was my first attempt using the Stamparatus step method to create relatively even lines.  I am impressed with the precision that creates without having to spend a ton of time measuring and creating a grid.  The other colors used represent the cheery color scheme of my local Mexican restaurant.

Enjoy Cinco de Mayo whatever that entails where you are.

Make sure you head over to #GDP136 to check out the inspiration cards from the design team and other creative entries.
