Paper Piecing a Quilt Pattern

I don't know about you, but I keep all my paper scraps.  You never know when you might be able to use that scrap for part of your design.  Right?    I've actually spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to keep my scraps usable.  I used to dump them all together in a drawer, but that quickly didn't work since I spent way too much time looking for a piece of the exact color I was using.  I created a new system when I moved into a larger crafting space.  I'm pretty happy with it so far.  I keep all my Whisper White and Very Vanilla scraps together in a plastic tub with a lid that is portable and goes with me to all my classes.  The colored scraps are each in a 8 1/2" x 11" see through ticket envelope stored with the cardstock of that color.  My DSP scraps are stored with the same type of DSP.  I've loved how easy it is to find the exact color scraps I need quickly.

I've been thinking about doing some paper piecing to a quilt pattern for quite some time.  This week's Stamp, Ink, Paper Challenge was the perfect motivation for me to follow through with that idea.  I looked up quilt patterns, found one I wanted to replicate, and tried to recreate it on my card using scraps of Tranquil Tide DSP.   I picked my patterns and cut a bunch of 1/2" squares and then cut the squares in half.  I then just followed the pattern and put my triangles together.

Sometimes, I have an idea in my head that I'm not going to use for a class or swap.  This is one of those ideas.  :)  It was fun to take the challenge and see if I could replicate a quilt pattern with paper, but it is not a card that can be quickly replicated.  When you have some time and some extra scraps of paper, spend time doing some paper piecing.  It is a fun way to use up scraps of paper and challenge your brain at the same time.  :)

Make sure you head over to Stamp, Ink, and Paper Challenge #164 and see the inspiration cards by the design team and other creative entries.
