How Cardmaking Helps Me Maintain my Attitude of Gratitude

There is one lesson that I've been learning and relearning for quite some time now.  That is the importance of maintaining an attitude of gratitude.  That does not mean I am always happy or that everything is always going well in my world.  What is does mean is that no matter what is going on I choose to look for something for which I can be thankful.  There are blessings all around us and things for which to give thanks, The lesson I keep relearning is how to keep my focus on the blessings and not on the problems.

Here is the United States, this is the beginning of Thanksgiving week.  It is a time for us to be grateful and focus on all the blessings in our lives.  I am glad we take time out of our busy lives to focus on thanksgiving one day, or one week, or one month out of the year.  But, I want to focus on giving thanks or maintaining that attitude of gratitude year round.  I want to stop when life gets hard or I'm tempted to focus on the negative and refocus my thinking.  I want to choose instead to think about those things for which I give thanks.  It is not easy to give thanks in all circumstances, but it is possible.

What does this have to do with card making?  How does card making help me maintain my attitude of gratitude?  Card making almost always takes my focus off myself and onto others.  It helps me focus my thoughts on gratitude for the recipient of the card, for Stampin' Up!, for all the colors, textures, fun products I use on my cards, for everything card making has added to my life.  For me, card making helps me focus on what I can accomplish rather than focusing on what I cannot.  When I make a card rather than buy one at the store, I spend the entire time of choosing the design and creating the card giving thanks.

Cards for all types of occasions can help you maintain an attitude of gratitude, but perhaps that most easily recognizable are thank you cards.  Every time you make and send a thank you card, you are intentionally taking time to focus on gratitude.

How am I going to intentionally incorporate more gratitude into my business?  We will be making at least one thank you card at each class.  There will always be thank you sentiments available to change more of the cards into thank you cards at each class.  I will continue sending each customer who places an order, hosts a workshop, or attends a class a thank you card that month.  I will begin carrying some blank thank yous with me to share with others throughout my daily life.

Maintaining an attitude of gratitude has positively impacted my life and I would love to share what I've learned with all of you so you can share with those you know.  Join me in maintaining an attitude of gratitude and giving thanks in every situation.  Let's not just keep our gratitude to ourselves, let's make it a point to share with those who have touched our lives and let those around us see us giving thanks and focusing on the blessings in our lives.
